Then the parts could store information on, who manufactured it, when it was installed, who by, how long it has been working for and when it was last serviced, plus more - this could all be stored on the central computer and then it could determine when a part needs to be replaced.
It would also help stop stolen parts being transferred to other vehicles hence killing the black market but providing all round safety for the consumer.
If a part is involved in an accident and is to be re-used - this data will be kept on the manufacturers computer.
The car should also be able to talk with its manufacturer about the state of its parts on a daily/weekly basis.
